Having read the MXT manual and Jeff Foster's The MXT Edge booklet, any other advice that experienced detectorists who have fine-tuned their craft would be deeply appreciated.

 Hi,
I also use a mxt , and I think its a fine machine. I traded my dfx in to get the mxt, mostly because I feel it gets better depth. One thing you will notice the vdi numbers will jump around as you sweep from differant angles but once you get a steady number reading you can bet the machine has locked in on that target. For example your reading 84 ,85 as you sweep you can bet thats a quarter.Make a test garden in your yard ,because  the soil in your area my affect the way your detector sees the target. I have also notice when a target is on the surface and you pinpoint, sometimes it will null or say overload raise coil.Get to know your detector, the way it works in all conditions. I have read alot about how much chatter the machine has, it does make alittle noise but you can reduce this by turning down your gain and also by a smaller coil.

The settings I use on my mxt are,
1. ground balance ,ground position
2.Gain 1+ or higher if i can
3.Threshold faint
4.trash 3                          I hope this helped                    Silver seeker Detecting

I'm in NE Kansas and have had my MXT for a little under a month.  It's going to take some getting used to after my relatively quiet detector from another company (the MXT is a chatter box)  Seems to get quite the depth though.

Stickman. How can you call the MXT a chatter box? Get to know your MXT you will chang your mind, it's a great detector.

I recently bought my MTX ,should be here today, and got the $150.00 bonus bucks from White?s. Which coil do you think I should look at? In live in an area where mineralized soil should not be a problem. Right now I am mainly interested in CW relic hunting with maybe a little farmstead hunting thrown in.

Thanks
Wettpaint
