Go Up Go Down

I have been MD off/on for years with cheap MD'ers. dug lots of junk. Got my prism V and found junk and coins. Just started to notch out the first four settings and have been hitting tons of coins. I have mostly new money till yesterday when I went back to an old park and got my first indian head penny 1891 great condition, it cleaned up nice. My question is how many deep and better coins am I overlooking by setting the descrimination 4 notches out?
Can I find more but also dig more trash by going lower? Is the depth compromised by the  descrimination being set higher?
I also have read many posts about these topics and I am using all your good advice. For a new guy out there I can use all the help I can get!
Thanks guys/gals.
John

Best thing to do is just discriminate the first setting (iron/nails) and dig everything.Doing it this way,you dig up more junk,,,,,,,,but sometimes you will find something sweet and make you start dancing,,and people will look at you like you are some kind of nut  Great. When the screen starts jumping around,,,,,, either your sensitivity is a bit too high or the computer has no idea what the heck is buried,,DIG !!!

Hello John,

I fully agree to Ankh! Set your disc as low as possible. Most probably only discriminating iron. This will give you better depth and make sure you don't miss any good (= wanted) targets.

Best wishes,

Christian

Thanks,
I went back to my hot spot and notched out only first setting and cut the sensitivity a few clicks. WOW I went over a previously gridded area and hit many small items. Bullets, coins, military items and misc items. I will post the pics I promise. I can say if it reads a penny a dime will often pop. If it reads a nickle a bullet poped up? Quaters and pennies are pretty on. I have only found a silver medal but still hoping for some goodies.
John

To get acquainted with the technique, you could try the medium way :just notch iron out, but ignore the foil, nickel and pull tabs readings.  Dig everything above pulltabs, and do not "push" your sensitivity.

Good finds will result.

After a while, you can dig in the nickel range.

Be aware that digging tons of junk is rewarded with GOLD finds !
