Thank you for all of that.

I plan to get the TDI when I have the funds.

How would you compare the TDI to the sovereign working on the beach only?

I like the Sovereign over all other detectors because of the tune ID. without having to discriminate.

I'm looking into the SD 2200V for my full time beach machine.
Everything about it sounds like it will do close to what the new 4800 and 5000 do,at least on the beach?

Thanks again for your input

They Sovereign has discrimiation , the TDI doesn't really. But on the beach the TDI will be deeper and you wont miss anything . But you could with the Sovereign. Dont know anything about the 2200 so cant comment but is it an old machine?
If you have not tried the E.Trac then you should ! very stable and the sounds and numbers very is to learn , at least i think so Smiley

Thanks,

I guess when I conceder getting the TDI I will have to compare it to Whites Duel Field w/12'' coil that I just got rid of.

I had an Explorer XS for about a year and and maybe I just had a bad coil or something because every time I got it in water it popped and cracked a lot and I was always trying to adjust the sensitivity to make it run smooth.
I also put down a 14k thin gold chain one time and it didn't even read it?
But pennies all day long.
My experience with the Explorer drew me away from getting an Etrac.
28 frequency's didn't seem to work any better for me than 17 and the explorer was making me dig a lot more junk and a lot less coin/jewelry than my sovereign.
And I thought the sovereign went deeper than the Explorer?
I will take your advice on the Etrac and investagate it somemore and maybe get one.

Thanks,Roman

The Dual Field doesn't come up to the TDI, but be warned very thin gold chains are a problem for most detectors even some pulse machines and dont get picked up at depth.
The other Machine i have , the Deus is the only one i have that can pick up the thinnest gold chain i have at the moment, but that chains not mine and even that machine only sees it at 2 inches!
The ET and the Explorers are a coin and ring hunter, if you had your XS set up too high it would have a bit of trouble if in the surf but the ET is far more stable.
The Sovereign is a great machine but you only have the sounds, the meter i think is not as accurate as the ET meter, you would get used to it and the sounds as i have. I know what i am digging before i dig it, even non ferous junk. I can identify all British coins by sound and number, though the numbers do change to a degree if the coin is coroded or on its side or at depth but the sound then gives the game away.
As for depth the Sovereign may be deeper by a small amount ? but with the ET to get the best you must swing slow and low, unless you are searching a shallow soil or sand base. On the Explorer the sensitivity on the beach might be set at 20 or 22 but the ET could almost be maxed out in auto sensitivity as i do. Manual sensitivity is very unwise on the beach , it will go nuts.Thats for land and that would match the Sovereign.
There are deeper machines than the ET or Sovereign and some of them are a lot cheaper but they dont have the wide scanning capability a multi freq has. The only machines i think give the ET a run are the T2 and F75 and maybe who knows perhaps the new G2

Thanks for the advice.

I have been detecting for 30 plus years and I missed that one on the xs unit?I was running the sensitivity on 32 I think? It was maxed out.
I was under the impression that the unstable effects that I was receiving were due to too many frequencies from the detector bouncing off of the satellite dishes on all the beach houses as I was passing them or that I had a bad coil?
I do always keep my sweeps medium to slow on any detector I use, even the PI units.

I will now reconceder getting the Etrac.Thanks.

Also as far as using a meter on the Sovereign I never liked it and never used it.

I did see an interesting product on an after market meter for the Sovereign called the TID.

I tried to cut and paste part of it but I couldn't get it all to paste and I also don't know the limitations on putting stuff that people are selling on the Thunting site?

Go to ebay and type in Minelab Sovereign meter and you will see what I'm talking about and they have video clips showing how it works.

Also, what are the units that you were talking about.....T2,F7 and G2?

Thanks

I will have a look at the meter later but the F75 , T2 , G2 are Fisher 75 , and the others are Technetics detectors . None are very good on the beach but all have good land depth. ET is the best alrounder , though no machine is perfect in every way Sad thats why they keep us spending our money.
Maxing the XS at 32 would have done my head in and if it was on manual sensitivity too would have been hell. ET can handle it in auto provided the beach is not too mineralised and doesn't lose to much in the depth if it did have to be lowered a bit.
Get back to me if you do get one and let me know what kind of beach you will be searching and i will advise on the settings.

Richard
