Does anyone out there have some good scans taken with a Runabout using Geosurveyor2 software? I am considering purchasing a Runabout USA so I downloaded the free software but the scans that came with the software are not very good especially since I am looking for a cave on my property that was found many years ago (when my grandfather was a kid). We have looked for the entrance but cannot find it. My property is in the mountains and the terrain is rough and woody. I would like to review more scans to see whether or not the Geosurveyor2 will meet my needs. I need to be able to detect a void possibly 150 feet or more. Any help guys would be appreciated.

kendavid,

in my own opinion, it is better that you just hire the services of gpr and metal detector because of the following reasons;

1. it would take a while for you to perfect the use of your detector much more interpret its findings. the learning curve is much longer.
2. your cost is not even 1% compared to buying your own.

but should ask the prospective detectorist the ff;
1. where did he learn how to use his detector? from the manual or from the manufacturer's or dealers demo?
2. how long have he been using it?

better hire those who learn by the manufacturer's training not just by reading the manual especially with the gpr detectors.

Good luck and Godbless

b79,

Thanks so much for your advice. I know the cost of the device is a bit much but I also have other intended uses. For example, I live on top of a mountain and I have to pump water up to my place since I am much higher than the local water service. I drilled two wells (one in excess of 400 feet) that were both insufficient to provide water for my household. As you can imagine, that cost me a pretty bundle. I have 120 acres there and surely there has to be water somewhere. I have heard that the cave on my property has running water. Bingo.
I am also into Indian artifacts (I am part American Indian ... 25%). The story has it that the cave was used by the Indians and some artifacts were seen just lying around. There are also rumors that my place was used by the soldiers in the civil war as a lookout and the cave was used to store munitions.
There are also other areas nearby that have caves. Some of which I have explored. I would love to find a room or even a link of chambers that nobody has recently seen or ever seen.

So the story starts to unfold...... I guess that make me a treasure hunter at heart. If you or any others here know of a better locator for caves, please feel free to inform me. Again, thanks for your reply and God bless always.

kendavid,

don't rely much on Runabout USA it can't penetrate beyond 15ft esp. in highly conductive areas.
hope it helps.

jackbruno,

Thanks for the information. It's hard to filter through all these bogus claims of these different equipments. I just wish I could find one scanner that is truly capable of deep earth penetration. I grow weary of all the lies being told to get your money. I don't want to invest a small fortune only to find out through experience that I bought the wrong equipment. Sounds like you have experience there. Is there any equipment you know of that's capable of doing the job I need it for? Thanks again brother.

God Bless,
kendavid

Hello kendavid
Here is a link -http://www.cast.uark.edu/nadag/projects_database/image_maps/dbase.htm
there is a scroll box about half way down the page and there is a magnetometer survey in PR- I don't know if it is your location- if so maybe it will help

Hello FOS,

I scrolled through the available site but no listing for my location. Interesting site nonetheless. Thanks anyway, brother.

the big mining company din't use gpr or magnetometer as their reliable source of information deep in the field. instead, they used geologist and boring machine to confirmed their finds or search of the minerals and metals, and that's obvious.

i think the best way tou could do is to hire geologist and boring machine to confirmed your target.

ram,
I have considered the possibility of drilling under the expertise of a geologist. Many of the professional well drillers ARE geologists so I would only need to hire the services of one person/team. The terrain is the biggest problem. I would have to take a bulldozer in front of the drill to make a path to any test location. If the geologist is wrong and we have to "test" another location, here goes another bulldozer trip and my land is going to be damaged as well. It seems there are no easy solutions to my problem and the apparently bogus claims of hi-tech detecting equipment companies will only led me to frustration. Thanks so much for your reply and input. Well said and maybe it's the only way to find the cave since the opening has apparently collapsed. Thanks, ram.
God bless,
kendavid
