Hi, Godwin.  The stone bears resemblance to old survey corner or line markers that I have seen in Va. I see what appear to be markings but may just be aging or algae. The ones that I have seen have been a good-size bolder, usually rough with prominent straight or angle cuts with sheared areas much like your picture.  Look closely to see if you find faint traces of numbers.  Might find degrees and minutes or sines or cosines.  You might check with a local surveyor.  Usually they are familiar with the old land markers.  Larry

Joe;

Does it HAVE to be a treasure sign? Could it be something left by a guerilla, during the war, as a sign for his friends???

Just a thought.

Definitely man made and with fairly new tools.  Either direction arrow or incompleted  petroglyph.  See many petroglyphs like this in Texas.

The image above the feather part of the arrow might be a capitol "J".

If the zig-zag image above the center is a carved lightning bolt, it indicates Danger, Booby trap, usually a prat fall or rock fault that will bring the whole thing down.  Good luck.

Brian, from the Spanish invasion of S. America and Mexico to about 150 years ago when we got too sofisticated to believe in such, years there are many refferences to secret symbols used to mark mines that had been sealed and camoflaged gold and silver mines.  Symbols near and upon the cave lintels will usually be a lightning bolt meaning the presence of booby traps, usually prat falls and rock slides.  I wish I could bee more helpfull with the symbols but I an getting old and the memory comes and goes.  Keep posting guys, it keeps the memory coming back.

Welcome to the forum Michael.
Interesting interpretation of the photo.
The original post was made 6-7 years ago and the member only made 4 posts, and never posted again.
I am afraid we will never know what happened to the “marker”
