Hello to everyone, is anybody could help and give me an idea or a clue. my father found a pieace of metal with marking (WSMC) in our farm. When we examine the said metal it has a 3 small holes in it, wieghing 8kilos and it looks like a briefcase with a thickness of 4 inches and width more or less 1 ft and height of 8 inches , the outside surface of the said item is very hard and when we put a nail and hammered it on one of the hole its kinda soft inside and it will not pass through the other side.  Detecting

PEP, that my friend is definitely not Platinum. What you have is a counter weight of a vehicle (Tractor, Truck or Military vehicle). This explains the holes in it, there is a round bar post where you will place these counter weights and if want more weights you can easily add and stack it on top of the other to the bar post.
4 years ago somebody tried to peddle me a similar kind of what you described (same size, height, weight and dimension) only it has one 3" dia. hole. It also has a mark of PT symbol in it that's why the seller insisted to me that it is PT. They said a fisherman found it under the sea and there are a lot more under water. Anyway we studied it by weight and size definitely it is not pure PT we do not know what elements are there, Bcoz we do not want to spend for assay it is suspicious. But we described the metal to the assayer and we conclude that the only possibility is it is a counter weights for a fishnet bcoz they found it underwater. This type of counter weights are common to big fishing vessels. And in your case it is also common to counter weights for farm equipments or military vehicles.

Remember PT is very rare, they did not come in bar forms (for commercial) until the 70's. and beside PT is hard to mine unlike gold. It is the residue from gold or they find it only at tail ends of gold mines that is why it is heavier than gold.

a platinum of that size you mentioned 4x8x12 should already weigh more than 130kg. in your case it only weighs 8kg. very far from the real weight of a PT. that is closer to the wt of an alloy

Platinum?
Doubts it, Ralph... a sea find could be an ingot as a lot of WW2 shipping carried metal as ingots (as Cussler) but they don't have holes.

In my area, the gold in the Peace River system carries 10 % platinum, in the area south of Princeton, BC, nuggets as big as 10 oz were found during the gold rush in that area,  c. 1800s.

Platinum is yellow-gray, very lustrous, like gold and weakly magnetic because of magnetite inclusions or?? And... its worth a lot more than gold yet doesnt take as much to make an ounce... very distinctive stuff, if you ever saw it you would know it again.

WSMC is probably something or other machine company.

Don't know if it helps.

Brian AKA goldigger (sure hope to)
