Hay Pep,

It could be real, but beware. There may be
some bogus johnson mathey assayers 16oz
platinum bars out there.

Check out this link,

You need to buy a acid test kit.

If you had a small enough piece
to heat red hot, that may tell you.

Platnium will be bright and shinny
after being heated to red hot and
then cooling off.

Other metals will be black and
the platted stuff will flake off if
platted. It will ruin some jewelry.

They have electronic testers also.

Acid test kits are reasonably cheap.

Happy Huntin,

Tabdog

send it to a reputable assayer they will definitely show you a documented result of the test.

the weight is 16 troy ounce, around half kilo? you said the size is 2.5 x 3inches... what is the thickness? in order for your item to be 99.9% PT, for that size of 2.5x3 inches, the thickness should be around 3mm or 1/8 inch. if it's thicker than that, it may countain only a percentage of platinum or just an alloy. have you weighed it already? is it around half kilo in weight? please check the actual weight. if that is 16ounces, then it should be around 1/8 inch or 3mm thick
