monodon;

The stone itself is water worn Lime stone, by appearance, but if it was covered with tar, that could be significant, for certain, whether those markings are natural, or not (I think the markings are natural-- the tar isnt!)

Look around for the prescence of more tar. Start, where the rock was found, and work outward, in a circle. If there is very little rock, on the surface, look deeper. For that you need a little technology.

It looks potential. (Thats funny, I would not have said that, before being on this forum.)

Gold Digger,

   Sorry to disappoint you thats NOT a japs treasure marker. An original japanese treasure marker...is WELL CARED AND WELL DEFINED...bcoz its purpose is not to confuse but to inform, even a 5 year old kid can identify its shape or meaning.
   Most diggings failed bcoz of these useless and odd shape rocks wherin some amateur treasure hunters are TRYING OR INSISTING to make these odd shape rocks a japs marker. In reality you only USE YOUR COMMON SENSE...if its unrecognizable...its NOT A JAPS MARKER...as simple as that.

monodon,

those carved lines are man made, they are not natural. investigate the surrounding areas.

gboy;
You are not disappointing me...  we are saying the same thing, except I said it was significant to be covered with tar....  there has to be some reason for that. Looking for the  source of the tar could be useful, or maybe not?

I have seen hundreds of stones, like that, here, and by themselves mean nothing.  Its the tar....

Hay Yaw,

It sure looks like a natural lime stone formation to me.

I am with Bryan. I would investigate tha tar. What is up

with that?

Good luck,

Tabdog

Go Up Go Down

tabdog;

Thanks for the support, I thought I  was losing ground.

If I found the rock, I would assume there had been some kind of mechanical repair place, there, at one time (tar has been used for body repair).... so I probably would dismiss it. But, considering the PROVEN use of tar, in the treasure caches... I would connect the two.

How they are connected, is for the person, at the location, to figure out, IF there is a connection, that is what needs to be proven now, so if there is a connection, then start looking!

That is why I suggested looking for MORE tar covered rock.... It would not hurt to try dowsing, if you can get a proven dowser. Mark/stake the spots found, by the dowser; then get a deep locator (2 box) and go over it again.... if there is any place, where the dowser reading coincides with the 2 box readings, it has good possibilities. Use both!

Dont dig in somebodys field, unless they are OK with it; dont rush to dig on the basis of a dowser, alone; make the appropriate offerings, before digging; dont be too disappointed, if you dont find anything.... it might have been dug, already. Keep records and photos. Dont destroy any markers found. My grandfather always said: GET IT IN WRITING!

Just about enough for a small book, there!

What do you say, tabdog? Good advice to anyone, me included.
