possibly because it was found in centre of shaft in a rock at approx 40ft. 
the chances of actually finding something so small in a rock at that depth in shaft is very difficult, ie needle in haystack.
it was followed a little later by the Egg marker. and the small bamboo strip markers in circle design amongst other markers
