b79;

Never! I dislike youtube, it is a bit too weird for me, besides maybe I am old fashioned...

Also, I have to get some concentrate to do a video, and my nearest (but poorest) gold source is about 100 miles (160km.) I figure Tues will be cooler. Cool enough to pack my stuff a mile up river.

This 'source' has two big dams and if I can get ANY gold, it will be sheer fool's luck! But it will do for a video as any concentrate, that I have right now, has NO gold, as it was washed out and sold!

My next nearest source is about 130 miles (208 km) but my fav. is 255 mi (408 km) and that would be a major trip into the mountains! Where I REALLY want to go is about 505 km! But possible nuggets.

FIRST, I have to have money, in order to do any thing.... I may not get to the river before the 28th. The 27th is my payday.

Let's think.....408 km = nice spot versus 505 km = prime spot with possible nuggets...

divided by "once in a lifetime video" + enjoyable trip (hopefully) =  Undecided  Undecided  Undecided

505 km!!!!!

You see... simple math Grin

Interesting math.... but you left out $$$ to buy gas, the amount of gas each respective location needs and the amount of time to get there VS. the amount of time needed to spend there divided by the amount of time wanted to spend at each. This probably works out as: desired time + limit5ed time / 2 = available time.

All  of this is frustrated by the actual findings:
1) If little, do I move to another place?
2) If it is good, for results, do I spend a day or 2, xtra, here?
3) Heck with videos, ahm gettin rich! Looky them BIG nuggies!
4) How do findings, good or bad, effect time spent at chosen location?
5) What kind of gear do I need for respective sites?
6) A dozen other unconsidered things.

You see, it is not simple math, after all! Nice try.

Oh, do NOT forget a  camera (still) and all the photos and  all the time they take! A movie DVM type would be good, too.

Aw, come on, Goldigger. It's not just a dollars and cents equation. None of us will be come rich from the paltry finds of everyday metal detecting. Some of us will get rich in terms of fitness and time spent in the company of friends and nature. Certainly we will gain something, if even a pocket full of change and the occasional piece of jewelry but to try and turn it into a simple plus or minus based on costs is quite unfair.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

Grin Grin Grin You know, Brian... One man buys a Rolex.... Another buys a Timex. It just depends on what he likes. Your time is "YOUR TIME" and if you want to find "nuggies" vs "whatever else" is YOUR CHOICE and NO mathematician can stop you!!

Good point, GD. Take the man's advise, goldigger! Great

All undoubtedly true, but not necessarily to poor pensioner like me, besides, I hate running.

If I get deeply involved in panning out nuggets and getting rich, yet fail to see a grizzly or cougar, or a plain old black bear, walk up behind me while I am so intently engrossed, I have to run. At my age and weight, that could be just as fatal as NOT running.  Shocked

Mind you, it has never happened ...... yet.

It boils down to money, if I do not have it, I can not put gas in my van.

Oh, and no coins, no jewelry, but maybe..... small lumps of yellow stuff.

The experts are prophesying an El Ni?o winter, so our nice weather may hold until December, when we may get our first snow. Otherwise, it may not hold until I get gas money, see. And.... it may seem paranoid, but, nature hates me.

Man, I hate complications.

I hate complications too, especially the no gas money complication. Maybe GD can help you out if his "travel agent YAMASHITA" pans out well. Grin Let GD tell you about that.  Cool
