I doubt the Japanese would use a wooden cross as a marker, or make glass bottles as markers but I may be wrong. Those devices may have been used to misdirect.
Before and during WW2, nationalist fervor was high. Shintoism and Emperor-worship were the order of the day. I really doubt they'd use a Christian symbol as a marker. In fact, I doubt they used any visible markers for most of the buried booty.
Do not be discouraged, for one man's trash is another man's treasure. IF you have come across an old garbage dump, there may be artifacts within which may be of historic/monetary value.
And IMHO, a nice treasure to find is a FULL bottle of San Miguel.
