If the second picture is any indication, it looks like they clean up nicely.  Any idea how old the oldest one in your collection is?

These bottles were found on a wreck who sank in 1908. It was the Loanda which sank by a collision at the coast of Dover.

Did you ever find a full bottle?

Well thats a pity. Were these bottles sealed with wax or just with a cork?  And how deep were they?

No, only a cork, I put a little varnish on it to seal it. The depth was 28meter - 80 feet. We also found some claypipes on the wreck. The ship was on his way to Africa.

I'm really impressed with the clay pipes.  As someone who used to smoke pipes, including a couple of clays, I can tell you clay pipe stems are very fragile.

Hi Whiteshark

We have quite a lot of ship wrecks on our South African coast line but I only dived on two of them. They are frequently visited by sport divers so there was nothing much to be found on them and I did not have much bottom time. I'd like to get myself some diving gear and explore the area near me as there is bound to be a wreck or two to be found. I really like those clay pipes very nice finds indeed and in one piece after all that time.

All the best
Xavier
