Go Up Go Down

I went to the bottle dump again with my son, his girlfriend, his son and my brother in law and sister in law. They had gotten there before I did and when I walked up they all had their own little individual piles going. I said as I arrived that my target for the day was a Vicks bottle. Later on I said I hadn't found a marble there even though everyone else had, so I added that to my list. Well my sister in law Deb found a Vick's Vatronol bottle. Then Cami found a Vicks jar. I was beginning to panic. I finally found a marble and felt better. Ten minutes later I found my Vicks jar. I was only digging for about an hour and all of us were getting pretty hot. My son said the thermometer at his house said it was 98 degrees and we were feeling every degree. Deb and Garry had just come from Illinois the day before and the heat and the altitude were getting to them, so we decided to call it a day. I think altogether we pulled out at least 85 bottles and another 10-20 relics. My son Gary found a large Canadian coin and was really excited about it. It wasn't until he got home and was able to clean it up a bit that he found out it was an 1899 Half Penny. Cami found a wheat penny that was a '54 I think. Garry found an old ID bracelet, and then I found another one. Garry also found 2 brass lipstick tubes and I found what I thought was a little metal pill bottle that later also turned out to be a lipstick tube with the words, "Pond's "Lips" on it. We were finding all kinds of other mechanical and auto junk but left most of that behind. I found the background for an AM car radio with the numbers on it for tuning in the radio. All in all we had a good day of finding bottles and other goodies. I put a flashlight behind the Vicks jar just so the color would stand out.

Enjoyed looking at your digs - sounds like you had a fun family outing. Your son's old half penny is nifty. Sue

My mistake. The coin was a penny, not a half penny. I don't know why I thought it was a half penny.
