One other thing, mate. I live in Perth so if you come by here, a visit is in order. At least coffee.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

Sean, I see you are getting sound advice, yes our outback is unforgiving, the biggest danger of all is becoming lost and lack of water.
..... Learn essential bush skills.
..... Always, I mean always carry a GPS with the co-ordinates of your camp/vehicle.
..... Never walk away from your camp/vehicle without at least one litre of water on your person.
..... Always plan to have at least 4.5 litres of water/day with you when visiting remote locations.

Some basics to get you partly prepared, there is much more when you begin to stock up on essential equipment which has been partly covered in other posts.
Good luck

Think I got the logistics part figured. Now just a matter of stashing up some more cash... not too far off, but I like LOTS of expendable cash when I travel. I think that come our summertime I may have enough to stay 2-3 weeks.

Cheers

Sean

Go Up Go Down

After Rereading this post, I have to post again.

When I was 5 my father took us to Turkey on a posting in the military.

I remember looking out the plane window with the pilot stating , "We are now passing over Ireland.  "

I thought to my self, SOME DAY I WILL BE THERE.

1979 I joined the USAF, and my first post was the UK.  I met a Irish woman and married her.

Spent all of my time off in Killaloe Ire.

Ireland was Good, Wife was a Witch.    Sure wish I never Looked out that Window!
