Hello All

Here is a story of a dying old farmer named James Price age 79 of Inverloch Victoria. Who claimed to his family in his dying breath that he had buried money of 166 gold sovereigns and Jewelry buried near Archie's creek where he had a one time owned land.

In 1925 the family searched for the treasure but nothing was found.

Was there a treasure to be found or was it the ramblings of a senile old man?

But perhaps somewhere near the hamlet of Archie's creek there could be small fortune awaiting an intrepid researcher prepared to research the story and daring to dream?

Hardluck.

Hello All

Excellent find Idaho Jones, well done. It is an amazing tool what you can find on internet even from the other side of the world.

Mercenarie I wish you luck in your project. Please take some advice from a worn out old treasure hunter who has made more mistakes than he cares to admit. But after 30 years of making them you learn a thing or two.

First A good treasure hunter always, like a good general or tactician researches the story to get the most information as possible before committing one self's time and energy. The historical society is worth checking out.So is Victoria lands records office to discover the right property the treasure is allegedly buried on. Secondly There is a chance that the property in question does not belong to family in question anymore. The current owners may have no idea of any money on their property.

Thirdly It pays to be secret about your project. if you locate the correct property it will be in your best interest to be very tactful in your dealing with the property owner. Perhaps coming an agree share of anything found. I suggest just asking to detect on their property and not say about treasure itself. There is a document somewhere on this site where you can use to draw up an agreement where you indemnify the owner from any accident liability and share arrangement co singed by the detector operator and the property owner.

And if the treasure hunting god shine on you just remember Idaho Jones and old Hardluck.

Hardluck. Wink

I am often amazed at some of the info that can be found out on the web. Genealogy sites are a wealth of info, gotta love folks searching for their ancestors and sharing their work!

Here's a tricky bit, this James Price died in Nov of 1925 in Victoria.

Same name, same year, same basic area, different month. He would have been about 73. And of course there are a couple more James Prices in Victoria at about that time. I'd look for those with a brother William, which still might be all of them Grin

From the death notice above I'd guess perhaps William was staying on the family farm in Archies Creek, but just a guess.

Good luck in the research!
