I have not seen this question. Hope I am not asking an already answered topic. I am new to detecting/treasure hunting. I am trying to find good places to detect as I am sure everyone is. Reference gold detecting, does anyone know if the book of locations that is part of the GPAA membership package worthwhile? Or is even membership in the club at all worth the membership fee?

Thanks

As a life member of the GPAA, I feel qualified to answer that. Yes, it is worth it. The book gives you places where you can LEGALLY prospect for gold and gemstones. You are sent a membership card which gives you access to those places. Anyone there who is not a member may be subject to arrest and loss of equipment. They are quite rigid about land use.

Thanks. I know the annual membership went up quite a bit from when I watched the tv show years ago. Without giving out actual locations, are there any sites around the Prescott Arizona area in the book?

Going by memory, Arizona is well represented. Picacho Peak is one that is near the state park.

HobbyHunter,  GPAA has access to a whole lot of sites in our state.    As can be expected, the triangle from Prescott to Wickenburg to the Phoenix metroplex is well covered.   Annual membership is still a bargain.    There are also active GPAA chapters in both Prescott and Phoenix if you are interested in attending monthly meetings and taking advantage of the knowledge available there.
