YOu might want to check out the Black Adder. I think it is made in the UK and about the best there is (especially made for detectorists). Other (fold down) spades which come to mind are the Fiskars and the one made by Glock. Unfortunately both of them are rather expensive priced at EUro 60 - 80.00 but unbeatable in quality. A cheap fold down spade will usually break down within one weekend of use - atleast they do with me Smiley

Best wishes and happy hunting,

Christian

i've been wondering about getting a small fold up shovel. there are some surplus army ones available quite cheap, but how often would you need to use one?
from what i have seen, and that is in videos on youtube, most seems to use a knife or hand trowel. i currently use a trowel, but so far have only been on soft sand or parks with sandy soil.
i'm guessing that it would depend where you are detecting, but the question still is.. how often would you need a shovel?

I lived in the UK for a Spell.   I would think a Hand Trowel would work ?

Cutting Plugs and what not.

I use a small D handled shovel like this:
{alt}

D handle makes it comfy.

Also carry a plastic scoop for pinpointing and a old thick bladed kitchen knife for cutting sod and roots.
