Man finds 1,800-pound meteorite

A Gardnerville man said he found an 1,800-pound meteorite in Douglas County using a device that detects radio signals from minerals. . . . . detected it with his omni-range master mineral locator. . . . operating his device two miles from the meteorite when he detected it.

Hey Sweet Sue....Bob Yokum is an interesting guy. He has a collection of Mamoth Tusks and many rare earth elements. I live 6 miles south of his shop and have the signals coming from his shop marked in my test garden. One thing about his signal line is that it stops at the target so it doesn't bother me on the other side of the garden....Art

These LRL simply don't work- period. I don't know what he found but it's not a meteorite. I guarantee you if that had been a real meteorite- it would have made the national news. As it was- some poor reporter who didn't know any better got suckered into spreading this phony meteorite story.

Hope you've been doing OK.  Grin Grin  Haven't been around much lately- been very busy.

I can't believe the reporter who wrote that story actually believed everything Bob Yocum said.  I even sent an email stressing it was NOT a meteorite and just a large worthless rock. Never got a reply back. I guess I wasn't the only one who let them know about it. Probably too embarrassed since they fell for it.

You remind me of Carl, the tech moderator. I posted a humdinger of a long range findin' news article once and he collared the guy in the story. Probably scared him to pieces, in his techy way, for what he told the reporter.

I'm just guessing, but don't striations on a rock indicate sedimentation?  Or water flowing past?  I didn't realize it was possible to identify a meteorite by striations....

No one is going to find a meteorite with a LRL so that was the tipoff right off the bat. Just looking at the photo tells me it an igneous rock. Some of these nutcases really believe in these MFD's - LRL's to the point where they simply become blind to the facts. Cry Cry
