Here are a few items that have been taken out of the Bottle sites here in Dallas.
All marked sterling except the coins, of course.
The matchbox is inscribed 1912.
The thimbles are sometimes "Crushed" or exposed to high heat, slight melt distortion.
Considering that site has caught fire in the past I do not doubt the high heat.
All of us who regularly dig there have several items made of silver. Some have gold items as well. I personally have not found any gold items with the exception of the plated stuff. Even my Gold medal for broadjump was "Plated".

Go for it, you never know till you try. Go through the dirt at least twice.
Rake it over till you are satisfied it is gleaned.
HINT: Look very closely, if you are finding small items use a 1/4 to 3/8 in. screen.

Wow. That stuff looks great. So how does one identify or find a dump site?

Cheers

Some one just may be generous enough and invite you.
That is how I got to where I did.
I just explored the area and found a better spot!

Nice finds. Love that bird.
I remember one day worked on a 5 gallon crock  in a late 1800s dump and after digging very carefully for a few hours..... found the bottom was completely gone! Undecided
