Don't know if this is the right place or not.A friend of mine gave me Discovery2000 MD.Can someone tell me what to expect with this machine?It seems t obe giving off false signals quite a bit and I can't figure out why.Thanks

The Bounty Hunter Lone Star has the same features as the Radio Shack Discovery 2000

Hello goldenSC09 , the Discovery series of Metal Detectors is made exclusively for Radio Shack by 1st Texas which is Bounty Hunter , they also acquired Fisher [Fisher Labs Palo alto , California] and Teknetics !!
The Discovery 2000 is not a bad machine . It is a "Intermediate Level" metal detector , also was a discovery 1000 and discovery 3000 . It only had one problem which was when you try to detect at Salt water beaches , the salt caused erratic chatter or noise . The noise problem is in your search-coil . Change it to a smaller coil and Re-Test !!!...............Best Regards..............Eugene52

Hello

Amongst my MD fleet Cheesy

I use a BH Lonestar on regular basis.

When you get false signals, it might either be the sens too high or a loose coil connector plug. This plug is not one of the best I ever saw on a MD ! It helps reinforcing its stability with a turn of scotch tape, so that it would stay in place once plugged in the control box.

The Lonestar is an excellent detector to look for euro coins on crowded beaches.

I use it summer only.

It's definitely not sensitive enough fo serious relic hunting.

Hello Beachcomber and welcome to this Great Forum !! Your answer is also correct , check the DIN "Connector Plug" for corrosion or faulty wire/solder connections !!

Yeah,thanks to all.It is a Radio Shack one and that was my first thought was that the plug or the plug wire was making it do that,because anytime I bump something ground,grass,ect. it'll give off a high signal,like a quarter or something.

Check the coil wire where it goes into the coil to see if it has pulled loose. My new one did and was doing what you describe. If the black wire covering is out of the coil and the wires are visible they are probably shorting out.
