I run old machines.

The sounds are the answer!

If you want to find the goodies, Dig It All! Wise

Nothing could be more true !

I run two older TR detectors, one being 32 years old. Its sounds tell me more than the display of my digital units.

Keep listening to what a detector is trying to tell you ! Detecting

You might reap great benefits !!  Wise

Although I don't know anything about metal detecting yet, I tend to be suspicious about technical claims of the more sophisticated detectors.  So, I am sure a detector without all the bells and whistles will work just fine for me.

As for a PI detector, I have been meaning to look for a lower price range unit, but I have not seen any.  I am not quite ready to give Minelab a large chunk of my savings yet, but I would like to own one of theirs some day.

I have been looking at pinpointers that are based on PI as a possible tool to carry.

Ive got a pinpointer, found that unless youre looking for a very small object say maybe in clay I hardly use it .  If it is coin size you will find it easily without the pinpointer

the so called up to date "modern" machines with their "guessing" displays are just that , guessing machines ---- the machines are  simply sorting the signals they get into what they think it is based upon the conductivity --as to what metal it "thinks" it is and how deep it is based upon the strength of it --the stronger the shallower --the weaker the deeper

its not rocket science for gods sake ! ---- the 3 tonal sounds -- low - mid--high  are the basic return levels --iron ---gold / aluminum --copper /silver --- one needs to remember if one is seeking gold --tiny small gold "rings up" like foil --- small gold "rings up" like pulltabs ---bigger gold mens rings & class rings "ring up" like nickles ---so if digging gold dig it all but iron sounds .
