I'm possitive CaptBild put a lot of hours in research and has experiance up the cazoo but for the Newbies, I have a little note.

What he's doing sounds exciting and it is but I need to send out a word of caution to Newbie's, like me. When looking for mines in Old mine territory be very careful you don't fall in one. The old marking's (made of wood) are usually rotted or the metal ones have been pulled out by bikers and have long ago fell from view.

Mines are not always a Hole in the side of a mountain. Sometimes in the flat they just go straight down in the middle of knowwhere. The only thing covering up the site is, guess what? Rememeber those rotten boards I mentioned. Do a little research and be prepared for anything, especially in the dessert. Other than that have the time of your life and remember anything done to mess up a site, including litter reflects on us all.

Hey!
Chuck The Miner:
"You Can Bet! Your SWEET BIBBY" "
When I'm out there, I got myeyes glued to the ground!
When I want to look around the general area..
                           "I STOP" !
Then I take my  eyes    Shocked   off the ground and look around!
The last, Hole in the ground, that I came across, out in West Az., had to be, A GOOD, 200' deep !
Straight down!
I use Advanced Science for making these DEPTH Calulations !
I drop a ROCK and Count the seconds, and then Mulitply that  BY Huh?? (anyone out there remember his/her, H/S Math)
AND!
That gives you the depth   Grin
Hey!
We're talkin' Rocket Science HERE!   :Smiley
I can't remember everything !

I think it's roughly 100 ft per second but I could be wrong. I seem to recall a program I was watching and the impression I got.

HH:
I have way! More than I can handle !
I expect to be out on this trip, for about 10-12 months.
I am going to help a friend finish getting her plane overhauled and up in the Friendly Skies!
Then, I am going to see about getting one of The Govt.'s New "Sport Pilot Lic.!
They're pretty easy to get!
That way, I can really cover the "Terrain" !
