Americium!  The Radio Active crap in your Smoke Detector.

It seems contained right it makes a most cool Nuclear Battery.

Small amounts not enough to Run your detector but More then Enough to Recharge it (NiCads) over the unused periods.

Laugh it you want, I think it has possibilities.

The material it's self emits Neutrons and Alpha particle leaving the bulk a Self Replenishing Cathode (NEGITIVE CHARGE).

Over time this would put a charge in the battery.
