I finally purchased a coin tumbler and cleaned over $120 in clad coins found so far since July. Very nice to see the coins come back to life. Yet, I found the cost of cleaning them expensive if you purchased the cleaning kits sold from Finch Products through middlemen companies. Not anymore. I did my research and any non abrasive liquid soap (e.g., Dawn) will take the dirt and grease off the coins. Also, the red and blue rocks are just aquarium pebbles that you can purchase cheap anywhere. I experimented with nickles (apart) and with clad and they came out as clean as with the expensive white burnishing powder. Any comments are welcome.

Great work! How long did you tumble them?

quarters and dimes about 12 hours each, nickels about 8 and pennies a couple of hours. I must admit that the powder was much faster in cleaning pennies than regular dish soap. But the rest of it was about the same. I mean I just left them overnight, thus maybe they are done before 12 hrs, but that's my choice. This is something that you'll do now and then after collecting enough coins (about 12 ounces of each kind). Really old coins I'll not tumble.

There are a variety of models. It all depends on your needs. Some people find them in hardware stores for they are the same as rock tumblers. Here is a link from Kellyco. I bought the heavy duty double barrel one. Good investment if you want to keep your coins clean and/or reusable. Many banks don't like odd looking coins.

Very impressive results!  I've been considering buying a tumbler and looked at the ones kellyco offers last night.. I probably will get the double barrelled one..

That is a good chunk of change. How long did it take you to get all of that?

Peace

Thanks for the Dawn tip. Your right. Those coin cleaning chems are expensive. That's why i quit. Have to try the Dawn in the tumbler.

You have enough coins there to start your own casino..... Grin

Hi. Good ? I don't go out everyday, just for a couple of hours two days a week after work and most Sundays where I put 6 to 8 hours. I began in late June. It wasn't until I cleaned them that I realized how much I had  Shocked I go mostly to parks and find lots of pocket spills everywhere (those are really gooood Cheesy). Some parks are better than others depending on how much activity there is. It's funny because everybody that approaches me tells me to go to the lake beaches. Well I went twice to different ones and found more mosquitoes and pulltabs than change.
