I've always had a problem correctly ground balancing a manual machine. Could anyone tell me how to adjust a 10-turn ground bal machine such as the Garrett Gold Scorpion or the Tesoro Tejon?

Most of them are done the same way.

Set threshold tone to desired level while coil is a foot or so away from any metal and or the ground.

Lower to coil to within a few inches of the ground.

If your tone gets lower or goes away raise the coil and turn the ground bal control clockwise a half a turn.

If your tone gets louder or screams raise the coil and turn the ground bal control counterclockwise a half a turn.

Repeat lowering and adjusting until the tone remains constant.

Some machines have a push button you have to press while making the adjustments.

Charles Garrett gives a really good demonstration of ground balancing on this Scorpion Gold Stinger instructional video.
