Its difficult to make a living from metal detecting today unless you do something a little bit different. When fresh water pearl "fishing" was banned I looked around and found that most ignore the fact there's more gold, and silver, being hidden today than ever in the past. Just think of the First and Second World Wars, Korea, Cuba, Iraq etc.

Some of your homesteads from the early 1900's didn't believe in banks after the depression. They buried their mason jars full of money outside the bedroom window, or in the garden.

I've got a none digital picture knocking about somewhere where a friend and I conducted a house search. Relatives had already found hidden rolls of banknotes. Nothing turned up apart from a row of rings placed on the top edge of the door frame of an understairs cupboard until we moved the bed. Instead of money between the mattresses he had laid banknotes on the floor boards and covered them with a carpet then slid the bed back on top.

Only problem was that the notes were no longer legal tender so had to be returned to be replaced with the new design.
