That's some find. Further reading from Sue's reference >> "The largest diamond of the 27,000 discovered by park visitors since the Crater became an Arkansas state park in 1972 was the 16.37-carat Amarillo Starlight. W. W. Johnson of Amarillo, Texas, found this spectacular gem-quality, white diamond in 1975."

Sue. Go for one of those Wink

You can hunt anywhere in the park. Digging is confined to a certain area, but it's a big place. Around 30 acres. They keep it plowed so it's like a construction site. Kids have a blast there. They can dig as big of a hole as they like. Heck they can even eat some dirt if they are hungry. LOL The park also has a very nice wadding/pool for the kids when they get tired. Everyone needs to try it once in their lives. You never know. You may be one of the lucky ones. SO - Come on down for a visit.

My wife and I stopped at the Crater of Diamonds last week.  Had to be over 100 degrees in the field.  Found lots of Quartz, but no Diamonds.  It was our first time mining for anything.  An old-timer took time to show us how to wash the dirt in the screens.  We stayed at the Diamond Oaks Bed and Breakfast about a mile down the road.  They lend you the screens, shovels, and buckets for free.  After a while, we ended up washing and double screening the dirt and put all the remaining small stones into a 5-gallon bucket and brought them home so we could search later.

Whew - I'm sweating just reading about your diamond adventure. I've never been there - keep thinking 'some day'. Sue
