I live in Motgan, Utah...but we have a cabin in indian canyon, on the argyle ridge near nine mile canyon between Price and Duchesne, so sometimes we'll go up and over wolf creek pass int he Uintahs, down to Hanna, Tabiona, and then into Duchesne to get to the cabin.  as soon as I get a hold of my dad, I'll get those coordiantes for you, he's at our cabin right now.  Where abouts are you at?

I live in Sandy, UT but am familiar with Hanna because years ago I had an Aunt and Uncle who lived there. They also have a cabin in Indian Canyon. Maybe you know them, Harley and Duane Hansen. Unfortunately Duane has passed on but they still have the cabin.

Can't say that I know the name, but it's a beautiful area around there.  I grew up near Sandy, at about 6200 So. and 2300 East in Holladay.  What are you interested in as far as history goes in these parts?  I might be able to help you find some cool places, and you can do the same for me.

Hey toleary34, that pic looks to me like an old Spanish Treasure Monument.  It looks like there is a big V on the cheek pointing to the big eye.  That would indicate to look where the eye is looking.  The nose may be a sighting stone too.  Of course it looks like nature did it...that's why the Spaniards only carved it a little bit so most people would think it was only a natural rock.  Did you metal detect the area real good?  Any other signs or markings in that area?  The Indians probably won't allow Treasure Hunters on that land, because of past problems.  But if you ask politely and tell them only you will go into that area and if they know you, you might be allowed to go in.  Go ahead and ask, but be prepared for a months wait or longer.  Good luck

Rattlesnake Joe is correct in his observation of the stone face.  It points directly at Lightning Ridge which is the location of a very, very RICH spanish mine.  The Utes could cover the mine but didn't realize the stone face was a directional marker that led the spanish back to their Royal Mine.  The stone face is located on the North Fork of the Duchesne River right by the road.  It's about a mile or so above the Indian reservation boundary so you're safe.  It is this mine that Caleb Rhoades recovered gold for Brigham Young under the watchful eyes of Chief Walker.  Also note the rock next to the face has the same look on top.  The semetry of the face is a little more complicated than Mother nature can produce.  As you continue up that canyon there are three campgrounds and the Defas Dude Ranch.  My Grandfather taught High School at Tabiona during the 1950's and talked with the Grandfather of one of his students.  The Grandfather told a story of being about 8 years old and it was his job to hold the Indian ponies while the braves killed the mexican miners.  Something they had been doing alot of dating back to the 1600's.
