Go Up Go Down

hiking around a couple of days ago, i stumbled upon a large rock with leaf fossil prints on the surface.  i used my rock hammer and systematically broke the rock apart and backpacked all of it out in both large and small chunks.

Very nice......and you did a good job of getting them out of the matrix.

Go Up Go Down

i was hiking around echo reservoir in Summit county Utah looking for insulators when i stumbled across a large rock with leaf fossil casts on the outside. i crudely broke the rock apart and back packed a 30 pound piece of it out, and then returned the next day with my rock hammer and very carefully took the rock apart and recovered the rest.  i was even able to break out the leaf casts themselves without any rock attached to them.  in the firest picture you can see those ones.  it took some time, but it was worth it.  i then painted them with super glue to make the color more vibrant and make the veins insdie of the leafs stand out a little bit better.  right now, among my other searches for history, i am in pursuit of a fossilized turtle that is bigger than a bub cap off of a car.

when talking with an older gentleman the other day during some of my research of the area, he told me of it's last know location, and am still trying to find it, however that one i won't try and take at all.  I'll just take some pictures in black and white, and leave only footprints
