Well guys, eliminating the obvious litter and concentrating on the obscure, is the key.
The clutter covering the ground is the biggest obstacle.
You never know for sure, if that stone you did not flip, could have been the find of a lifetime. Shocked
That is one of the things that take so long. Crawling around on all fours takes a while too.
I sometimes see only a small particle of the hidden treasure inside the stone.
That is the hardest part of teaching someone.
Getting them to see what is right at their feet! Got to crawl if the specimens are small.
Even the most experienced can have difficulties seeing something that they have stepped over.
They just do not know what to look for if they have never found one.
I got a story about just such an event. Angry
Maybe another time I'll discuss how to distinguish rock from specimen. Teach

Well, at that you are doing a lot better than a lot of people.  I'm definitely NOT in Out4gold's class, but I do know from my experiences as a youth that the more you practice the better you get.   When I was a much younger person I was finding more and better specimens faster than my friends because I had spent more time looking (and I spent more time looking in areas likely to have what I was looking for).

hi BA, my snail shells aren't fossils tho. I find them in farm fields when walking the dog. An old dog that stops every three or four steps, he actually prefers to just stop and stare into who knows where, so i get to move slowly and look at the ground alot keeping an eye out for the occasional arrow head. Haven't found anything like Out4Gold has. nice stuff
