Wow! You really could have found something very very valueable there! There are specialezed collectors for those and some of these can get really expensive!

You should best have an expert examine it. Maybe posting pictures on a specialzed forum could give you a first hint as well but an expert should best analyze a sample of it.

and its HEAVY !!!  almost 3 pounds...even at 50 cents a gram ....almost $675...hope its better than that !!!

Nice find Grin Grin Grin

It sure looks like a meteorite but even I've been fooled before. Best way to check it is to send a sample to a meteorite lab where they will check for the presence of nickel. Only then will they be able to determine if it's a meteorite.

if you are using a metal detector for identifying meteorites, what do you look for?  do you set it for "all metal" of more in the nickel range?

It doesn't appear to have the tumble or entry melt side(s).
