Well X,
Most of the material is found either freestone or embedded in a soft shale matrix. The shale bed stratas contained in the Woodbine material, near here, has some of the most well preserved ammonites in Texas.
Some of the collectors slice them and polish the results to reveal the inner chambering.
I have posted one before that I feel is one of the best color featured I have found in the Woodbine. I'll post this one again.
The crab "Notopocorystes dichrous" is one of three I found this past weekend "freestone" in an area known as the "California Crossing" site.
I found the crab just as you see it. Just washed off with a little water and a soft brush.
This site is made famous from the many species of upper Cretaceous material that has been found there over a period of 100+ years. (Britton Member) Eagleford formation.
US Geological Society has this particular location in a publication circ 1950.
It also has one of the Woodbine formations near Irving Tx in there.
Both of the locations contained in the publication are still producing, although the one portraying the Woodbine is no longer available. DFW Airport property now. No tresspassing on this portion of Bear Creek.
Bear Creek cuts through the Woodbine and exposes several different deposits that has an abundance of fossils aquatic and terrestrial.
I have found dino material, crabs "three different species", cephlopods "six different species", gastropods and the clam & ostrea material is very abundant.
This post has a cut specimen of the Calycoceras and as found "last year" specimens.
Hope this reply is informative.
