Hi all,

Here are a few pictures of the olivine crystals from a pallasite meteorite I was lucky enough to have found while hunting. Pallasites only make up about 1.5% of all meteorite falls making them extremely rare. The olivine in this piece is amazing in the sunlight. Some times it is truly hard to believe that this meteorite is 4.5 billion years old! Here is a little info on pallasite meteorites.

Pallasites are igneous in nature and characterized by crystals of olivine, often peridots (clear, green olivine crystals of gem quality), embedded in a matrix of iron-nickel.
Pallasites are believed to have come from the core/mantle boundary of differentiated asteroids that were broken apart by impact. In most cases, they have chemical, elemental, and isotopic features that link them to specific chemical groups of iron meteorites, suggesting that they come from the same parent bodies as these irons. I have hunted and found both iron meteorites and pallasites on the same outing. Hope you all enjoy the pics.

Good luck and good hunting!                Ironman

Nice pieces.  G.M still produces but it take a lot of hard work and perseverance to find them.

WOW! That is a very nice piece. Love to find something like that. Did you find it by luck or knew where to look?

Steve,   it sure is an extremely hard area to hunt. I have worn several pairs of boots, broken a few detectors, lost some expensive sun glasses and misc stuff and suffered a few injuries during the hunts! Gotta love it!

Dgrs2,  Thanks!   I know where to look after lots of research and leg work.

Seanengman, thanks much!!!

Craigj,  Thanks very much!

Thanks all!
