Hi
Very new at this hooby and have read a fair amount about the Garratt ace 250. I'm mainly going to be using it on the beach and was wondering if the salt would effect the capability of the detector? Also if the detector can locate gold rings? Gold detectors seem to be very specalised. Please help!!
Thanks

Hi, I have an Ace250 since December 2009, and I've found about 20 gold objects in fluvial beachs (doesn't have salt) ... I tried to use Ace 250 in salt beaches and I didn't like ... in the dry sand it's very good but in wet sand no!!! I never work in all-metal (1st position), I always use the 2nd mode position (jewelry) In the LCD  I've found gold in the 3rd, 4th and 5th position ... the same position for pull tabs :-) I never detect with iron and foil positions.
Great finds!!!

The Ace 250 would probably be a better choice for you even in wet sand than the Bounty Hunters you are considering.   if you search are previous posts, you'll pick up some tips from some people who have successfully used the Garrett Ace 250 to hunt salt water wet sand beaches (tricky and there will be a lot of chatter, but it can be done).

Check out the Garrett AT Pro also. (that one you don't have to worry about staying out of the way of the odd wave).

Hi
Thanks for info. The sand is very salty but the garrett 250 seems a great detector, I might have to change my search area.

Simmy, your skills at using your machine will improve over time so don't discount the Ace 250 too much. People do use it on the beach with great success here in Perth. There is some issue with salty sand which can be overcome by sensitivity settings and by another technique for helping to make it more immune to the mineralization. Read all of the Ace 250 threads here before you decide. Watch for my posts on the subject.

Hi
Thanks for the info. The trouble is that sometime I tend to research so much that I end up confusing myself. I think that I will take your advice and go for the garratt 250. Overall it seems to be a good detector. I will keep an eye on your posting. Thanks again. Ian

The AT Pro is a really great machine. And like Aggie said, you don't have to worry about stray waves. That sucker can be submerged 10 feet without problems.

Hey... I am giving away an AT Pro with my "Swing Into Spring" video contest... You should enter... You never know - you could be swinging an AT Pro in a couple months.

I meant to look for past posts on the subject. There must be close to 1000 comments on that detector already. They're worth reading.
