Looks like a fun spot to explore. Those buildings are all gone now  Sad

Was that Camp Carson itself or Woodley? I looked for Woodley but never did find any remnants. There are a bunch of Hoodoos (big rock columns) up on the hillside. I always thought it would be a good place to detect for secret stashes, but never have yet.

Hi Idaho!  That is the actual townsite of Camp Carson, up on top of the hill.  I never found any remains at Woodley, either, even back in the early '70's.  Up above Woodley and Tanner Gulch (which ran up to the Camp Carson mines and townsite) there was a hard rock tunnel down by the river across from the road.  There were a bunch of posted claims along that stretch of the river that were still active in those days.

Most of the area along the river was claimed last I looked about 2 years ago and I expect even more is now. Not sure about the Camp Carson area but I wouldn't be surprised. Anywhere with good roads seems to be grabbed up but hard to say how many paid thier rent...
