Thankyou very kindly Homefire, I'll send a pack of legal references and extracts to you in a private mail when I redraft the version I sent to officials. After dinner, yummy time now.

Great post and I can see a lot of research pertained, I have a stream some twenty metres from here, one of many in this area, I am some twenty miles from the Dolaucothi gold mine, so theoretically if I use my as yet unused 'Prospectors Choice' sluice, that I have plans to turn into a small solar powered dredge, in the secluded river, would I mark the location by say GPS then after I have collected the maybe placer gold / nuggets would I then have to alert the authorities / coroner about my haul.. It would probably be small amounts but who knows eh..

Go Up Go Down

Hi Folks and Friends
Apologies for my absence, but I have been prospecting in Wales now and then over the past few years.
I've been keeping an eye on the Crown Estate's dodgy deals and can reveal the following. Bear in mind that the Crown Estate is just a quango of the Treasury, which is a part of this corrupt and inept UK government.
1. In 2011 the Crown Estate was conned by two rogue companies, which misrepresented their finances to a huge extent. The reason for the attempted ban on panning on the Afon Mawddach and Afon Wen was that these companies wanted sole ownership of the river gold as a condition of their contracts. I can name the various individuals involved, but this is unnecessary at this stage. The first company was Midas Exploration Ltd, headed by a chap who put his mother's name in the company register as the director and secretary, and she has lost her house in Bournemouth as a result of a bankruptcy following a 60k Mold County Court claim by a rival company called GoldminesofWales. That company has now disappeared from the scene and the Crown Estate has been left with egg on its not so royal bonce. What was once a benign rock washing hobby for a few brave souls was demolished by a few greedy locals who teamed up with the corrupt Crown Estate on the pretext of millions in profits, which could only have been earned by hugely polluting mining operations in a SSSI/SAC!!! Gold panning has resumed from time to time, but Aled, the local forestry manager has tried to bully brave treasure hunters off not only forestry land, but also private and National Trust areas. I intend to return to a nugget patch I have identified in the Spring of 2015.

Don't have nearly the problems in the USA as our bros across the pond, but lately the tree huggers and environmentalists have convinced another democrat run house to evict legal miners off their claims by turning the land into wilderness areas and other prohibited lands. I say bring back the republicans! Lost a lot of good recreational gold mining properties under Clinton and Carter. The Bush's (republicans) were only interested in oil properties. Well enough whining, I did enjoy this thread. Thanks Xavier for bringing it back up.

A bad day at gold prospecting or metal detecting is better than a good day at work.
