Only the second and fifth paragraphs ask any questions at all and these questions are NOT presented in a way to make the reader draw preconceived conclusions. i.e. "Did he believe in ghosts?". I do agree with you that the reader should "Look carefully" and will add that there is an understood 'Caveat Lector' to all that I post.

Sadly, it is mostly fiction with a few facts of unrelated information sprinkled in. Not at all convincing or real.
Why not begin a project here? Get people involved. Uncover some REAL facts and see what happens. Most of us really DO know how to find treasure. We don't need a fairy tale to motivate us. There are plenty of REAL leads out there to follow.

Neither of those documents is evidence. What you need for a real treasure lead is a primary source. Both of those are not even close and the so called cipher was printed in a font that could never have existed in the 1800s. No matter how hard they tried, even the newspapers with their elaborate presses could never line the type up properly. Before automatic typesetting, they were jogged up and down all over the entire newspaper. Even as late as the 1970s, this was the case. The cipher is a forgery or more properly a fraudulent document.
You true believers just keep on recycling the same old untruths and after a while, you truly believe they are factual when they are not.

The following exerpt describes their manufacter.
"Sooner or later a Confederate signal officer was bound to come up with a device to simplify enciphering operations, and a gadget devised by a Captain William N. Barker seemed to meet the need. In Myer’s Manual there is a picture of one form of the device, shown here in figure 65. I don’t think it was necessary to explain how it worked, for it is almost self-evident. Several of these devices were captured during the war, one of them being among the items in the NSA museum (fig. 66). This device was captured at Mobile in 1865. All it did was to mechanize, in a rather inefficient manner, the use of the Vigenère Cipher"

From the same volume we see that Judah Benjamin was also in possession of a cipher reel.
"So very fragmentary was the amount of crypto-logic information known to the general public in these days that when there was found on John Wilkes Booth’s body a cipher square that was almost identical with the cipher square that had been mounted on the cipher reel found in Confederate secretary of state Judah P. Benjamin’s office in Richmond, the federal authorities in Washington attempted to prove that this necessarily meant the Confederate leaders were implicated in the plot to assassinate Lincoln and had been giving Booth instructions in cipher. Figure 67 is a picture of the cipher square found on Booth, and also in a trunk in his hotel room in Washington."

When you make a cipher it is not for distribution. Almost all of them are hand written. What good is it to have one if anyone can go to the print shop and pick one up. Also, printers of the day could not align the type in a straight line. That didn't happen until the 1940s when the Linotype machines were introduced. Before then, letter press was an uneven dog's breakfast. Your so called cipher is a modern day attempt at pulling your leg. You are being pranked, mate. Nothing more. Your entire group is being baited by people like me who find you to be laughable. Don't look this way though. I'm not that cruel. If I ever gave you a lead, you can count on it being a real one.

Sigh . . .
These are forgeries and instruments of fraud. That you can't see that is just so sad. You'll waste your life chasing after fairy tales. You know, this is REAL LIFE, not an Indiana Jones movie where every clue points exactly to the next clue and so forth. That is a script and it is fiction. You guys take unrelated items that are from unverified sources and call them clues. Then you pick a random historical person and claim they lead directly to that person.
You don't ever, in treasure hunting, take a person like John Wilkes Booth, and simply gather scrapts of paper and call it proof of something. You guys have a theory and the only thing you accept is wobbly so called "proof" of that theory. Anyone who disagrees with you or sees the holes in your theories are then castigated.
Now you keep playing the theme song to National Treasure or Indiana Jones in your head if it makes you happy. I'm in favor of happy.
