godfather 1.  You have not posted enough information for continued feedback on your sign. We need much more information to enable us to help you. Look for more signs and post pictures of them. Some pictures of the area would be great. As far as the 'time' of your sign goes, you will need to do some research, yes it takes time and its not always easy but, sometimes its the only way.

Hello All

The idea of the mark being Scarab beetle is interesting however I doubt that it is Egyptian in origin because of several reasons. The region where it has been claimed to be have found too far north of Egyptian empires area of influence and second it it not presented in a Egyptian form. third shape of the cut has almost machine like precision. Powerful images of such things such as the sacred Scarab Beetle pushing a round ball were often portrayed in a standard form like standardized lettering.

All points to a more modern vintage.

If anyone is interested in Scarab beetle and its cultural significance meaning to ancient Egypt then please read on.

It seemed to the ancient Egyptians that the young scarab beetles emerged spontaneously from the burrow were they were born. Therefore they were worshipped as "Khepera", which means "he was came forth." This creative aspect of the scarab was associated with the creator god Atum.

The ray-like antenna on the beetle's head and its practice of dung-rolling caused the beetle to also carry solar symbolism. The scarab-beetle god Khepera was believed to push the setting sun along the sky in the same manner as the beetle with his ball of dung. In many artifacts, the scarab is depicted pushing the sun along its course in the sky.

The following below is an example of Scarab Beetle symbol being used in a word Khepera.

Hardluck
