I will be posting photos of the tree with the "markings" that I have found in area where local folk-lore suggested Jesse James visited.  Opinions welcome.  Thanks, Debbie

Almost looks like a brand in the big pic (like from a branding iron) but outlaws very often marked the trees around where they buried their loot. Definitely worth digging into

Hello there debbie.............We may live in the nearby area.  My concern with the marking is of questioning the length of time that has taken place since the days of JJ.  The marking appears to be much more recent?  What size would a tree have been at that time?  I agree that it possibly would appear interesting; tho pictures are not as exact as seeing it in real.  Thanks Waveing

Thanks for the reply.  I know of no one, at least in the last fifty years or so that branded the tree.  The tree is no longer there and is not on my property.  I do have a very familiar and historical knowledge of the property however.  It is just real close, within so many yards of a home reported to be relatives of Jesse James.  Pretty curious.  Have a good day-thanks again, Debbie
Hi, thanks for the response.   This tree is not on my property and is no longer there.  Thought it was just kinda strange.  I don't know of anybody who branded the tree in the last fifty years or so.  After seeing the t.v. program the other night thought it was curious.  Probably some kind of bug or insect trail.  Thanks again, Debbie

Hello again..thanks, with more info you provided, does seem curious.  How do you know for certain that no one has been there in last 50 yrs, and do you know where the tree is now?  When was the picture taken?  What tv show were you referring to?  It's great hearing from you, ............................regards, Roger Wink

if these are old carvings according to my books it would read as:  follow trail into valley keeping cliff or hills on right side, once reach crossroads take left trail around and out of valley.  going straight as right is dead ends.  once out of valley or (better trail for wagons) there will be a spring.  the dot would represent water and the left trail would represent an easier wagon route to the water.   chad
