Here is a marking at the base of an older tree....basically 5 holes - 2 at the top and bottom and one in the middle.  This is a site where a Fort once stood and the Cherokee Indians were held there in the late 1830's.  Does it lookk familiar to anyone???   Thanks!  Doc

LOL! There called Bullet Holes!

Groups of three and five are the bench mark for grouping for most shooters.

You could be right...I have been shooting for 40 years and never felt the need to place a pattern like this on a tree....especially a few inches off the ground.  But thanks for your input.... Smiley

Run your MD over the markings, there may be something left in or around it.

What interest me, is the blaze that has been cut around the holes. If they were grouping rounds, the bark would just grow over the holes. There would be no blaze. I thinking it may be some marker or guide for something or someone.

Regards

DJP

I would try the metal detector first also. I have a 54 caliber what will blow a ring of bark out from around the bullet hole.

I have to agree, looks a lot like target practice, could still be old though.
