I want to get others input about what you think, is it better to buy or build. So far I have been buying but would like to buy or build a PI unit to go with my classic whites 2 unit and my new Tesoro Tiger Shark Metal Detector. I have been doing hobby electronics for years but have never try to build a  detector. Anyway thinks for any input you have. Charles Rider

Two well documented Relatively simple PI detectors can be had in KIT form from Silverdog.

If your competent in your soldering skills and can read schematic these are good way to do one.

PCB and all required discrete  parts.

NO COIL!

I look at his site, He  seems to have ever thing that one would need and at 3/4 less the work to just find the parts to put it together. Homefire what is your thoughts of the Barracuda Legend Kit, I thinking about going with it.  My soldering skills are good I worked in a computer Mfg for about 10 years, but still think of my self as a hobbyist.

Not Built one but others have and were happy.

Some say it's markedly better then the Surf PI.

I have one of his Surf Kits here but have not put it together yet.

Read up on them and Find out what you think.

No way could I order the parts and do a PCB for the price he ask.

 Cool

Well in my opinion the DBP2010 beats the crap out of the surf PI I know because I have build both of them BUT I would not use the DBP2010 on firm land with a coil of 300mm and by the way you do have to make a few mods on the DBP2010 for a coil of 300mm the surf PI works well but the settings are a pain and tends to give off a false signal if you do not hold the coil in a perpendicular way to the ground I found this on the beach and on firm land BUT for simplicity of a build I would go for the surf PI in a nutshell the surf PI is a much easier build but the DBP2010 is a better machine (In my opinion)

Regard Xavier

Building is a real challenge unless you have a technical background. That's not to say you can't do it but ask Xavier how many messages and e-mails the two of us exchanged while he built his last project. I'm sort of an unusual teacher in that I can hardly recall giving him a direct answer. Instead, I sent him off on research projects to help build his background. Today, I believe he is capable of any project.

Cheesy WOW thanks GD but I have to admit that you are one hell of a good teacher, when given the chance.
Hi Williamsingr you could ask Silverdog for a complete unit he may charge you a bit more but at least you will know that you have a working machine. You will still have to do all the mounting work but hey if you,re a builder I cant see where you could go wrong. Don't forget to ask him to supply you with a coil.

All the best to ya all
Regards Xavier
