Can anyone please help to IDENTIFY THE DETECTOR COILS below, they were given to me just as they are.

I think the small 6 ?? enclosed one fits with the shaft I was also given, sadly with no control box. The swivel has a small metal bolt possibly 4BA running through it as shown and has ?Waterproof Search Coil? written across the front of the coil.

The second 8 ?? open coil has no writing on it anywhere.

Both are wired with ?180 degree 5 pin DIN plugs? and have two wound coils.

Thanks in anticipation Mike.

Hi Mike,

I think they belong to the Chinese made MD Series of detectors. See attached examples. If this is the case, best throw them on eBay as sold as Smiley The MD detectors sell for about USD 15 - 30.00 wholesale in China so you know what you get Smiley

Regards,

Christian

Hi Christian,
I'm sure you are absolutely right about the coils, there was an unusual shaped handle like your first pic shows that came with the coils.

I think I might adapt the handle and shaft I've shown and use it for one of my projects, by making the lower half all non-metallic.

Hi Eugene, can I ask you, is there any possibility that the larger 8 ? inch coil would be suitable for use with the Bandido II U Max project that I?m building? It does seem to be quite well built. The coil resistances are 12.75 ohm and 5.50 ohm.

Thanks best regards Mike.

Hi Eugene, I think I've answered my own question, I have just found your Tesoro coil table and I now realise the resistances are a lot different.

regards Mike.

Hi Mike,
They deffo look like the coils off the chinese (Treasure view?) detectors.
At least you can probably use the housings, shouldnt be too difficult to crack open.
Whereabouts in the u.k. are you?
Just thinking that I have a couple of tesoro coils if you need to borrow one for testing.
They are off the earlier style tesoros with the 5 pin plug - I think the newer ones are 4?

Hi Paul, I'm from Chelmsford in Essex. Where are you from, if you're close by I might take you up on your offer, when I've finished building it.

best regards Mike.

Hello Mike In2mud , Do you have the metal detector that the coils go to ? Then hook one coil up and measure the frequency with an oscilloscope or frequency counter , always use a prob with high impedance so nothing gets shorted . Measure at the search coil connector . If it is 10,12 ,0r 14 khz a Tesoro coil should work . If it is 6.99 khz it is a Radio Shack Discovery or Bounty hunter . If it is less than 5 Khz a Fisher should work but "ALWAYS" measure your TX and RX DC resistance , because the DC resistances of the coil you take off must match the new coil you put on . I agree with outback It looks like Bounty hunter and is 6.99 khz .
Hope that helps a little.
Best Regards.............Eugene52

Hi Eugene, I just have the coils, not the detector, but I could knock up a test circuit to test them out, if you can recommend one.
Maybe the front end from one the detectors circuits you?ve posted.

I know that sometimes hanging a scope probe on the circuit can stop the oscillations.
I?ve got a frequency counter, oscilloscope and X10 probe etc.

All the best Mike.
