We actually tried to make a shoe detector back in the late 1970's or early 1980's. We took a AH Pro Nugget Hunter and modified the coil to clip onto our boot but it didn't work well due to the pressure created when walking, it caused the signal to warble. We didn't spend much time on the project, instead we went on to create the first "automatic" detector for my little daughter who was only 5 at the time. She used it in competition at the hunt in Grand Prairie TX in 1978 or 9. A major manufacturer asked how I built it and then came out with their own version, shortly after. LOL The shoe detector was built for coin detecting on Padre Island.. Where my father had recovered many coins from the 1553 fleet, right after the devastating hurricane in the 1930's.
