I asked this question on another forum and never got an answer that really satisfied me. So here goes. I have a Garmin GPS and the instructions that came with it specifically say not to use lithium batteries with it as they are too powerful. So with that in mind do any of you more experienced MDers use lithium batteries in your detector? I am toying with buying a good charger and some rechargeable batteries but I just wanted to find out what you all suggest. By the way, my detector is a Minelabs Xterra 70.
Thanks,
Ray

I can not answer your question directly, but I have always found it is best to use the type and even brand of batteries called for by the manufacturer of the product.  Their product was designed to operate around the battery called for.

I would agree with you but in reading and re-reading the supplied manual there is absolutely no mention of batteries other than it said the detector uses 4 AA batteries for it's power. That's all.

I did use rechargeable a few years ago and did not care for them. They did not stay charged very long. But with the new ones out there now might be worth looking into again.
Oldcoon has a point  "type and even brand of batteries called for by the manufacturer" makes sense to me,

A battery is a battery .  If the item you have is asking for  9 volts , you can supply that with any battery of  9 volts . How long the battery will last is another question .  A battery of  2000 Ma  lasts longer than a battery of 200 Ma . So what counts is the voltage and the power .  Cornelius
