Maybe the cans are biodegradable and the tabs aren't. That is the only reasonable explanation even though it is wrong. Or maybe gophers eat the cans and leave the tab behind because it is like a rind to them. Oh well, a detectorists job is never done.

Cheers

Sean

I say that cans are submersibles because they quickly go deep into the ground. No they don't degrade, they tease you as you dig over 12" to find that crap  Angry

I just keep thinking that Tab could have been one of those fine gold rings that sound the same! Violent

Just went to the local park and only dug ONE pull tab! Woohoo! Detected for about 1.5 hours and got $1.44 in clad and a canadian penny. Also found a laser pen, one nail, one piece of foil, and one staple. Not to bad of a coin to trash ratio.

Cheers

Sean

Pull-tabs is a great invention; a really clever one, but that people remove them from the can is what blows my mind  Bang Head. I dig all the pulltabs because as Xavier says, you never know if you are leaving gold behind or simply a good nickel.

I wonder how much a coffee tin of tabs collects at the recycler?... better yet many times schools collect the tabs for the Ronald Mcdonald house. My understanding also is that the tabs are a more pure form of aluminum than the can itself. Be thrifty and those tabs could be cash towards your next detector!

Cheers

I have no idea, but is not a bad idea your idea. We take 'em home anyways so toss em in a can and see how much it collects.

Now all you need to do is take it to the recycler or the Mcdonald house.

Cheers
