chris,
one thought is swing speed. i don't own that machine but i know that with some of the minelab models over the last 5- 10 years, the swing speed is crucial to good finds. if you have a fairly rapid swingspeed try swinging half as fast and walk slowly. as i said minelab is known as one of the best machines for beach hunting. i have used minelab, whites, fisher machines on the beach and minelab is by far the best. but i have an old sovereign xs not the new. perhaps there is something minor.if you have a slow swing speed and you are in an area that you are sure there are targets, i would call minelab and see what they think.

Many of us have wanted to get their old detector back.
Some would like back ones that were from the 1980's.
I found I can still use the old VLF/TR's and still find a pile
of goodies. Also find the oldies perform as well or better when
hunting for modern Canadian clad coins, which are made of nickel plated
steel. Most modern ID detectors see these as iron and disc. them out, or
ID jumps from one end of the meter to the other. So I'm back to a non-metered
machine.

For those that want to relive some memories, I have just started a new website, under construction
that will have downloads to past catalogs, flyers, field tests, etc.

What a great idea!
I've got and ancient 30 or so page brochure from "Laser" (sold in the u.k. made by Tesoro)
I'll get it scanned and send it to you!

I love my Garrett Groundhog and return to it often. It never fails me.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.
