Seeing that a good "hand pick" that is lightweight but strong is an essential part of any treasure hunters equipment.

Question is>> what is a good hand pick, what do YOU use? What recommendations do you have.

thanks

I have an Estwing pick that is nice and light yet very durable. Dad bought it probably 25 or 30 years ago and its still going strong. This one looks a lil fancier but still the same basic design.

Hmmm..

Thanks for the link! It appears to be a good one and decently priced too.

Has anyone ever made their own?

Nightjar made one out of a plow disc.   Here's a link to where you can find pictures of it:

A lot of the members of my local metal detecting club use picks made by a guy up in the Prescott, Arizona area.

I wonder just how many folks actually use a "hand pick" VS Digging Tool?

Hmmm... maybe a poll here? Idea

What's yall think?

I know a hand pick really comes in handy out here where the soil is really dry and hard.like concrete.....given my choice with moist, workable soil, I'd rather use a digging tool....but whatever it takes to get to the target.

I've been known to use everything from a hand rock pick to a backhoe Smiley Depends on how far and fast I need to dig and how far I have to carry it!

Only problem with backhoes is they tend to be slightly indelicate Smiley Can darn sure move some dirt though
