Anyone built a flat spiral for either surf or baraccuda? Does this coil improve depth. Just want to know if a flat spiral coil is worth attempting or the regular monocoil design would suffice.

Flay coils work well but the normally wound coil are just as good in my opinion.

Xavier is right, that is flat or coil winding does not change how meaningful the detection distance in depth

didn't the surf p.i by whites have a flat spiral coil? I saw a video on you tube of someone testing a homebuilt surf p.i using a flat wound coil and the results were impressive. Anyways, regular monocoil will have to do for now. I did a pcb layout for the compass 77b automatic if anyone interested.
