It had me going for a bit also. I don't really ever look at anything on the beach. So the rest of the time I was hunting, I was in a whole other world....then reality hit once I got in the car and saw "copy".  Oh well.

Besides the fact that it was ate up with corrosion-it just had to be a danged ol' copy didn't it-that's a bummer===but it'll still be cool to keep in your display case or in old mason jar or something. I like foreign coins-they are cool to look at and find--so keep at it man! Hey, how'd you luck up and wind up in the Caymans-sounds really cool man! Pray Great Detecting Violent bet there's some dang nice gold rings and silver jewelry dropped there all the time-ha!

Go Up Go Down

Came over here doing construction work and ended up meeting my girlfriend. I have been over here now off and on for the past 5 years. I got into metal detecting about 3 years ago, and got real serious about 1 year ago. I am just getting to where I can tell the difference between trash and goodies. So hopefully the post will get better and no more copies. I am getting an excal New Years when we go to the states. I hear to many stories, almost everyday by somebody on the beach lost something somewhere. There is still a 2 month search for a ladies 60,000 dollar ring she lost at the Westin....I think it's gone - gone - gone. People stumble over rings here all the time. 3 of the rings I have found, I saw them while swinging the MXT. I am bummed because we just got our first, and I do mean first stormy type weather all year Monday. I went out the door yesterday morning to search low tide....4:30 am and twist my ankle leaving the house.....Dang it. If it weren't for the 2 perks I took, I wouldn't be walking around. Hopefully Thursday or Friday I'll be at it again.

Chris

I'm new at this and my detector seems to give an increasing tone as I approach salt water. Can't seem to adjust the ground balance to tone out the seawater/sand effect, so I mainly hunt on the dry sand where I can shoot for coins etc..
I'm currently reseraching several old wrecks that came to grief on a point near where I live on a remote part of the South African coast. At least 2 of them were "treasure ships" of the British & Dutch East India company. Lots of bodies and coins have washed up over the last 300 years and the local fisherman are always finding them in the tidal pools. As far as I know I'll be one of the first guys to go down there with a metal detector, so wish me luck
p.s. I have a chinese made military spec TS-150. A simple but powerful detector that doesn't like salt water...
