I have a Minelab Sovereign GT and from all accounts it's brilliant on the beach and land
for coins jewellry & relics. It's not so good in picking up small pieces of gold or nuggets.
Correct me if i'm wrong but the frequency for finding small gold is in the higher frequency
range above the sovereign's 17 ranges up to 25.5. Gold apparantely requires a range 60 to70+
My question, is it possible to add the additional frequency (as well as changes to internal
components)via a toggle switch on the sovereign gt.
what are your thoughts, if it was possible it would make the sovereign more competative
with other specific gold hunting machines.

Reading the Manual, it seems that machine is NOT switchable on the Freq.

How they Derive the Freq My guess is by harmonics and filters.

VLF machines with running freq of 15 Khz and higher are good for Gold.

The Higher the Freq the smaller of gold it can find but at the expense of depth.

Gold bugs run up to 70 khz but don't expect much on the depth side.

Sub Grain Size gold will sing out good down to 4-5 Inches.

Other PI gold machines can find Grain size down to 12 Inches.

It all depends on the Hunt!

Again, there is No Ultimate Machine.

Hi Homefire

Thanks for the reply,my thoughts were based on forum members indicating that the sovereign Gt is unable
to locate smaller surface gold, but is OK for larger gold in the frequency range 15-22.5Khz. As you have said the higher the frequency
the smaller the gold with the major disadvantage being lack of depth (say about 4-5"). This lead to my thoughts if it was
at all possible to mount another three-way toggle switch. Like track, fix and pinpoint but having up off, 1st position 60Khz & 2nd position
70Khz which would enable the GT to find smaller surface gold rather than having to bypass anything small. I dare say this would be a
great challenge for a tech savy eletronic guru.
cheers

Crunchy, at risk of wrecking that machine you might be better off buying the Eureka Gold as it is set up like that
but its best frequency is the 20khz setting as its 60khz is too sensitive, and the lowest frequency it has is just
too low and not sensitive enough and it wont quite match the depth of the GT but the differance wont be much,

Ridge runner & homefire, point taken and sound advise. I wouldn't do it to my sovereign anyway, just asking if someone
had done it. Interesting comments from ridge runner about the 20 & 60KHz settings on the Eureka Gold with the 60KHz being
too sensitive and 20KHz not sensitive enough. Well with the sovereign at a max of 25.5KHz there's hope for me yet (bigger nuggets).
Off on my first gold outing in a few weeks to Burrendong Dam in the Wellington area in NSW. North of the spillway dam is a small site
as well as Stuart town, Ophir and might get to Hill end on the way home.
Thanks guys much appreciated for your help and advice

The Eureka's lowest frequency is not the best and the 20khz is it's best,

I hope you have a ball out there mate, People have been using the Sovereign GT for prospecting
with a fair bit of success I might add, So you just go and enjoy ya self and if ya find some i'll take my
hat off to ya, all the best.
